Sunday 4th September – Would the Lord abandon us? – Pastor David Daniel

Today’s intriguing title might seem rhetorical, but it is not intended to be. As we look at 1 Samuel chapter 4, we are confronted by the sad reality of the Lord God abandoning ‘His people.’

The dying mother’s last words were to name her child Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel!” (1 Samuel 4:21 NIV). Things must have deteriorated drastically for the Lord to move in this way.

The world has undergone some extreme pressures over the last couple of years. The church has not been exempt. Our way of life as a people has changed, and church life has changed, also. Our preacher today, Pastor David, believes that the church needs to be the influencer in our society, not the other way around. The Pandemic is not the first, and it will not be the last major epidemic to have a major effect on our lives.

If we are the church… since we are the church, we should not abandon the truth or diminish its message. The Lord abandoned Israel at that time because Israel had already abandoned Him. We don’t have to make the same mistake.
