Is Jesus who he claims to be?
In Luke 5:18-26, the scribes and Pharisees cast doubt on the divine person of Jesus Christ by accusing him of blasphemy. Because in their minds, no man can forgive only God, and in their words, “Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
Because in their minds, no man can forgive only God, and in their words, “Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Jesus, knowing what they were thinking, challenged them, “Which is easier, to say your sins are forgiven or rise up and walk?”
He healed the paralysed man and, in the minds of these same scribes and Pharisees, would be the precursor of the greeting of Nicodemus in John 3v1: “We know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him”. (NIV).
These men had to wrestle with the times they lived in (Roman occupation) and tradition (the current religious views) vs the evidence.
Does Jesus have the power (authority) or not? What do you think?
We look forward to seeing you at 10:30 am.
