It is Thursday night, and Jesus is but one day away from the cross and all its shame.
John 13 -16 provides the reader with what is referred to as the upper room discourse, a rich narrative filled with promise after promise as Jesus prepares the disciples for his imminent departure.
John 15 is a slight turning point in the upper room discourse, as the final verse of chapter 14 highlights that Jesus and the disciples left the upper room.
Here, in chapter 15, Jesus makes the final of the seven ‘I am’ statements found in John’s Gospel. This ‘I am’ he speaks to a nation and every believer.
