The Book of Acts, also known as the Acts of the Apostles, is a powerful historical account of the early church’s establishment and the rapid expansion of Christianity from a small group to a global movement. It marks the beginning of the church following Jesus’ ascension.
In Acts 1:4, Jesus instructed his disciples not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for the promise of the Father. This instruction was not a suggestion but a command. In verse 5, he states, “For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Jesus knew what would unfold after his departure and what these “common” men would be entrusted to do in building the kingdom. Therefore, he commanded them to wait.
As we delve into the first few chapters of Acts, we will understand the reason behind Jesus’ command and how significant the “Promise” still is for us as believers.
